On Chinese New Year Eve, ten-year-old Yang Lan is anxiously waiting for her singer mother to come home. While her big family is celebrating loudly with Mahjong, fireworks, dinner, and laughs, she struggles to reconcile her urge to feel, at least for a brief moment, loved.

Chieh Yang is studying screenwriting and directing in the MFA program at Columbia University in New York City. She graduated from National Chengchi University in Taiwan. Ping Pong Coach, the short film she wrote and produced, won the Best Student Short Film award at Tribeca Film Festival. Cronos, the short film she wrote and directed, was a semifinalist for a Student Academy Award. She is also a member of Golden Horse Film Festival Academy. |
