Born in Bremen, Germany, Kai Gero Lenke studied Creative Writing at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig and the Swiss Literature Institute in Bern. He graduated from Columbia University School of the Arts Film Program in 2015 and is a recipient of scholarships from the German Academic Exchange Service, The German National Academic Foundation and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
