Mortuary College

by Angeline Dimambro
Original Teleplay

Mortuary College is a half-hour mockumentary following a ragtag group of morticians and the school that trains them in all things death. It's college, filled with parties, beer runs, and hookups; but under the coffin lid is a curriculum that includes embalming labs, psychology of grief lectures, and restorative arts (where students learn how to reconstruct facial features of the deceased). In the end, it isn’t just going to teach them how to be good morticians, but how to be good people.

Angeline Joelle Dimambro is a full-on Midwestern gal. She is a screenwriter and current Film MFA candidate at Columbia University. She holds a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Michigan, where she was awarded the Emerging Writers Award for her thesis, a collection of comic short stories. She writes about outsiders, telling their stories through comedic and dramatic lenses. Her original mockumentary pilot, Mortuary College, was a winner of the spring 2021 Sloan Foundation Screenplay Treatment Competition at Columbia University. Steal the Bacon, her thesis film, received the 2022 GiGadgets Grant and the Chinh Chu Finishing Prize. She’s currently developing the feature-length script for this story, which seeks to honor the beautiful, mysterious mess that is girlhood. Angeline brings the lessons she’s learned from busing tables at her hometown diner in Michigan and deadheading petunias at the local greenhouse to her current work as a storyteller. She is a 2023 Teaching Fellow for a Columbia undergraduate screenwriting lab and News Fellow for the School of the Arts. She is most interested in telling stories that center the poetic, ugly mess that is being alive in this world.
